European vs US Regulations
It is a growing trend to buy all-natural cosmetics and skin care because consumers are becoming more aware of the harmful ingredients contained in countless beauty products.
In the past couple of years we have seen a comparison between regulations held in Europe versus those here in the US. The findings are quite surprising.
The European Union Directive holds higher standards than the Food and Drug Administration in the US. Regulations under the EU Directive requires ingredients to be tested for safety by a scientific committee. Any ingredients that are known or suspected to cause cancer, genetic mutations or birth defects are not allowed to be sold.
The FDA does not require testing and therefore has only banned few chemicals for cosmetic use. This leaves countless other chemicals left untested which are being used to make many of the cosmetic products we buy here today.
Labeling also possesses a significant difference between the two. The EU Directive requires full disclosure of everything contained within a product intended for cosmetic use. This however is not the required by the FDA.
Not only are ingredients not being tested for safety but they are not required to be listed on the label. This puts the consumer at risk of using something that could potentially be harmful and not be aware of its presence in the product.
With the internet at our fingertips it is much easier to be an educated and informed consumer. You can also leave all the guesswork out of it and use Minerallustre. Most of our products are vegan friendly and completely safe to use.
